WHAT IS UNBURDENED?

Unburdened is an evidence-based workshop that teaches people working in the field of veterinary medicine how to reduce stress and burnout related to difficult client interactions. It is based on research of stressors in veterinary medicine and tailored specifically to this field. We offer a live program as well as an online workbook. Contact us for more information!

HOW DOES IT BENEFIT OUR PRACTICE?

  • Employees in veterinary medicine struggle with workplace stressors--turnover rates for veterinary clinic personnel are double that of other industries

  • Unburdened teaches staff how to reduce tension from a key stressor in this field--difficult client interactions

  • When members of your team know how to reduce their own distress, it lowers overall stress in the workplace

HOW DOES UNBURDENED DIFFER FROM CLIENT COMMUNICATIONS WORKSHOPS?

Unburdened is based on research showing that owners who are distressed about their pets engage in certain behaviors that impact veterinary personnel. Communications workshops teach you what to say to a client. Unburdened takes a deeper dive into how these interactions affect you individually. It provides step-by-step training to help you take on less of your client’s burden, decreasing stress for yourself and your workplace.

HOW DOES UNBURDENED DIFFER FROM GENERAL WELLBEING WORKSHOPS?

Unburdened focuses on reducing burden transfer. Other wellbeing workshops focus on general stress management techniques, healthy living, or work life balance. Unburdened was developed to address a key stressor in veterinary medicine--the transfer of client stress to veterinary personnel. It provides a step-by-step strategy to decrease stress from difficult client interactions. Randomized trials show that Unburdened effectively reduces stress and burnout in veterinary healthcare teams.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?

  • All clinical staff are eligible

  • Non-clinical staff are eligible if their job involves some client interaction

  • Staff who do not interact with clients on a regular basis might find the content of this program less relevant to their work
